1. Common Colors and "Morphs"
When browsing for an axolotl, you’ll see them categorized by morphs (genetic color variations). Some of the most popular include:
- Leucistic (Pink/White): The "classic" pet axolotl. They have white or pale pink bodies with dark eyes and bright pink gills.
- Wild Type: Darker, mottled greenish-brown or black. These look most like axolotls found in nature and often have shiny gold flecks (iridophores) on their skin.
- Albino: Completely white or golden with pink/red eyes. They lack all dark pigment.
